Sadaf receives top reviewer scores on her workshop paper at PWSN (2007-09-21): Sadaf Zahedi received the top scores of all papers accepted to the workshop on Performance Control in Wireless Sensor Networks. She collaborated with Chatschik Bisdikian at IBM on this work. Congratulations Sadaf!

NESL sweeps the Graduation Awards (2007-06-09): NESLites won a spot in all three EE Departmental awards for Outstanding Degrees. Aman Kansal won Outstanding PhD award, Laura Balzano won the Outstanding MS award, and NESL intern Ling Chung Lau won the Outstanding BS award and the Christina Huang Memorial Prize.
Furthermore, former NESL intern Frank Kuo won the 2007 O'Neill Distinguished Service Award, and former NESL intern Jeff Chen won the 2007 Engineering Achievement Award for Student Welfare.

Congratulations to Dr. Ram Kumar, Roy, and David (2007-04-04): Ram defended his thesis on software based memory protection and will join Google in June after enjoying safari in Serengeti. Also, recently Roy Shea and David Jea defended their Ph.D. Thesis proposals successfully and advanced to PhD candidacy. Congratulations guys!

Graduation time! (2006-06-17): Today was UCLA Engineering commencement, and many NESLites received their degrees. Receiving Ph.D. degrees were Saurabh Ganeriwal, who is joining Google, and Arun Somansundra, who has been at Broadcom for several months. Receiving M.S. degrees were David Lee (at his own startup Atla Labs), Ilias Tsigkogiannis (joining Microsoft), Jason Hsu (joining Aerospace Corporation), Kevin Lee (departing for Cisco),and Sadaf Zahedi (continuing as a Ph.D. student). Kris Lin, one of our undegraduate researchers received her B.S. degree. Also recently graduated but not at the commencement are Aman Kansal who received his Ph.D. and is now at Microsoft Research, Tad Dreier who received his M.S. but is still wrapping his M.S. thesis, and Jennifer Yu who received her B.S. Congratulations everyone!

Congratulations to Gautam and Vlasios (2005-09-15): In June, Gautam Kulkarni received his Phd with the thesis titled "Physical Layer Aware Design of Network Protocols and Scheduling Algorithms in Wireless Networks" and he joined Bluecoat Systems in Sunnyvale, CA. In August, Vlasios Tsiatsis received his PhD with the thesis titled, "Field-level Energy Management for Sensor Networks". He joined Ericsson in Stockholm, Sweden. Congratulations to you both! NESL misses you!

Best Demonstration Award for SOS at IPSN/SPOTS (2005-04-27): The SOS project team (Ram, Roy, and Simon) put up an excellent show at the IPSN/SPOTS 2005 demosntration session, and walked away as joint winners (with a project from UCSD) of the Best Demonstration Award, including a prize of $500. An award committee made of six leading international reserchers selected the winners from among 27 demonstrations at the conference. NESL also put up three other excellent and well received demonstrations on Helimote, Ragobot, and Sensing Uncertainty. Go NESL! Go SOS!!

ACM/IEEE IPSN & SPOTS (2005-04-25): UCLA will host IPSN/SPOTS '05, the Fourth International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks (IPSN) which this year includes SPOTS, a special track on platforms, tools, and design methods for networked embedded sensors.
